Studio visits

“Herbert works in a second-floor loft in Sarasota just north of downtown. Standing anywhere in his open windowed studio the cool breeze wafts around you. Looking outside you can immerse yourself in the world of nature. Focusing your attention to the artist and the interior you can see an enormous amount of powerful work that is well organized in such a manner as to maximize the dimensions of the space. The intense physical presence of Herbert’s art, whether it be a sculpture or painting, is a reflection of the energy of the artist himself. “

What to expect during a studio visit

The primary objective of a Private Studio Visit is to offer one’s guest an opportunity to engage with the artist and the artwork in a relaxed setting, free from the interruptions and distractions that often occur during an Open Studio Event. The immersive quality of a Private Studio Visit is generally considered to be an essential practice among art enthusiasts and collectors who wish to fully gain a fully informed sense of context and the artist’s unique vocabulary as it applies to any given work of art. It is an excellent way to learn about my art; I can speak of the various life experiences that inform my bodies of work; doing so often inspires a much deeper reading of the art.

The studio visit is a broadly variable experience depending on the artist. In my case, it is NOT a “sales-focused event.” However, if one is interested in acquiring my artwork, one is afforded the opportunity to deal directly with me.

I believe that it is important for my guests to feel welcome and comfortable; I provide a variety of snacks and beverages, including wine and soft drinks. Visitors are offered the option to be guided or peruse the art in silence, with me available to answer any questions.

The visit offers the unique opportunity to see paintings that are not currently on display and to look through the works on paper in my flat files. Another benefit is the opportunity to see works in progress (I currently have five or more paintings in various stages of completion), to learn about them and my work process. And perhaps discover work that speaks to you, to purchase or be inspired to commission a piece.

Guests are always welcome to return to reevaluate a piece of art or simply spend more time with me. If you wish to bring someone with you, just give me a call.

If you are interested in visiting the studio, please do not hesitate to contact me to schedule your Private Studio Visit.
